A Photo Session for Yours Truly

I had the opportunity to step in front of the camera for the first time in a while and to take it even better my husband wanted to take some pictures with me! For those who don't know, my Hubby does not enjoy taking pictures so for him to do this is a BIG DEAL! I love him and I want that portrayed in photos on my wall!

My two friends, Tina and Helen, did the photo session for us! We picked a theme and locale and hit Pinterest for ideas. All three of us love photography and enjoy getting the opportunity to share, collaborate and learn through experiences like this one. I think that they did an amazing job. I felt so comfortable and at ease. And when someone can capture a smile from my Hubby...a genuine smile...they are worth their weight in gold!

I definitely have some favorites and I've only seen a couple pictures so far! I think I will be using them to update my blog and Facebook page. What do you think? Do you see a picture you are loving? You see that is the thing about pictures. We all see and love different things about them. Photos capture moments and memories. Not only that, they can show personality in unique and beautiful ways. Simple Significance at its best.

{30 Before 30} Family Vacation

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite photos from our family vacation this year. Our first family vacation by the way! We spent a lovely time at the beach. It was Little Miss' first time and she was a little nervous at first, but slowly came around to exploring and having fun.

I'll tell you what...we rented a house instead of a hotel and it was FAN-FLIPPING-TASTIC!! I don't think I'll want to be in a hotel for an extended stay if I can prevent it. I did over pack in regards to food and I didn't wear a stitch of makeup.

We ate at a lovely seafood restaurant overlooking the beach. Everyone of us cleared our plate without complaint. For the Hubs, that is a big deal because he doesn't "trust" new restaurants that often.

I am happy that we made the effort to go and get out the house. To break our boring everyday routine with a new adventure.

{30 Before 30} The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Do you know want to know where I stand on my 30 before 30? It's been a while since I written anything let alone given an update big to do list. For those of you just tuning in this all started with this post right before my 29th birthday day. There were even a few blog posts as I crossed items off my list like  painting and buying a new dogbible studies, or my valentine's day adventure.

My most recent cross off was my trip to......well, you can see by the title where I went! LOL
  1. Go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal studies
  2. Drink butter beer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
One of the things that I was really jazzed about was the fact that this trip was free because I chaperoned a school field trip. Yea for a free ticket. The down side was this school function was Grad Bash and I would need to stay awake until 4:30 am!! I am not a up all nighter. I am more of an in bed and going to sleep between 9:30  to 10 pm!! But the draw of Harry Potter superseded my need for sleep because I HAD TO GO. I was like my pilgrimage to Potterhead Mecca!!

Can you see the utter excitement in my eyes?

I was so thrilled to be hanging with and be shown around by the fellow nerd, Amy! Only a true fan can appreciate the excitement with a first timer like me. We were basically joined at the hip the entire night in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley.

We rode the new Hogwarts Express together which was pretty cool. We didn't know there was an additional show on the train going to Diagon Alley. Oh, well. Next time I'll see it!
Hogsmeade village was absolutely breath taking in both the day light and at night! I really wish I could have brought my DSLR to capture better photos, but I didn't want to lug it around all night (literally).

Amy and I were not huge ride people, but we did do the ride in the castle. It was a little intense with the jerking about and twisting. I am glad we didn't ride it on a fuller stomach!
As chaperones, we got to skip the student lines and go through the fast pass lanes! How awesome is that? I felt very important and I really liked the fact the Universal didn't seem "packed" like it would be on a normal visiting day. Another bonus.

I bought a swanky new shirt and a chocolate frog! Side note, the frog was $12! Very pricey for a block of chocolate. I kind of wish it would have been hollow and a little cheaper, but it was all about enjoying the experience.

In the battle of regular or frozen butter beer, I have to say I am on the side of frozen! It was delicious! If I go back to WWOHP, I won't even get the regular stuff.
Perhaps, my experience was a little tainted by the fact the regular butter beer was flat. Boo.

The newest part of the WWOHP is Diagon Alley. I think one of the coolest part of this area was the Gringotts Dragon. It looked amazing! The dragon breathed fire every 10 minutes and even though you are perfectly safe in regards to distance, you can definitely feel the heat from this bad boy! It's looked magically terrifying at night. It was also funny to see people's reaction who got caught off guard by the fire breathing.

One of things I wish I would have known about was the wand features! I will be taking part in this next time. You see, when you buy a wand at the park, they give you a map and instructions on where you can go to "make magic happen" with your wand. My nerdy senses were tingling on that one Granted, wands are a little pricey ranging from $25 to $35 so you have to willing to pay!

As the night went on to the wee hours of the morning, so did our energy level. I mean, we worked all day and then left from school to head to Orlando. A couple other chaperones, some random students, and us just chilled on this stoop12 Grimmauld Place, the last little bit of the night until the gates were opened to load up the buses.
If you waited around long enough looking at the window, you would see Kreacher, the house elf, peaking out the window. It was a little creepy!

All in all it was a great experience besides the sleep deprivation! I am so happy to have been asked to go. I really felt like my 30 Before 30 list was a strong motivator to say yes to experiences like this one rather than my usual ho-hum nights.

I will conclude this blog post with a most fitting quote:

What's next off my 30 before 30 bucket list? Family vacation.....stay tuned.

Goodbye Graduates 2015

It has been another successful school year for this high school teacher. It was not without its stresses and challenges. I mean, I assumed the role of department chair where I worked with two new teachers who eventually chose to leave us for other schools. My co-worker had her first baby and I wanted to make sure her students and grades were taken care of because I know what it is like to "worry" about your classes while on maternity leave. As a school, we dealt with end of course and end of year exams which were a disaster because they were poorly made. Did I mention that these tests are tied to teacher evaluations? Yea. SUPER FUN!?!?

However, this post is not about ranting about the hassles and woes of teaching. This is a reflection on my year with my graduating seniors. For the last five years, I have presented the "Psychology Award" at the senior award ceremony which usually starts with a speech written by yours truly. Here is the one I wrote last year. I always look forward to my closing remarks to my students, It is a bitter sweet moment.

Here is my 2015 speech:

In honor of this year's graduating class, I will keep this speech short and sweet. And to further emulate the class of 2015, I will have you know that I wrote this speech about an hour ago! #truestory #thestruggleisreal

No matter how you are feeling about graduation: relieved, unsure, or just grateful to be here; I hope that you take time to savor the moment because all too soon  your next chapter will begin whether you are ready or not.

Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life! Tip toe if must, but take the step. Growth can be painful. Change can be uncomfortable, but nothing is as painful and uncomfortable as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong and that leaves you unhappy and with "what ifs." So choose wisely and learn from your choices and grow from any mistakes you make along the way.

Now that the sentimentality is out of the way--it is my pleasure to recognize the psychology and sociology volunteer of the year. This young lady maintained highest marks all year long while working, dual enrolling and helping manage the boy's soccer team. I can not imagine this year without her. I would like to recognize. Miss CJ!!

There were some hugs and tears and an epic on stage selfie!! Yea I am that teacher!

Thanks for all the memories Class of 2015! It was real...sometimes a real struggles and other times a real blast! Until we meet again.

Graduation Inspired Photography 2015

As a high school teacher, I am honored to be apart of our commencement ceremony each year. This year, I brought my camera and was able to capture some before and after pictures. I don't have a lot of pictures of students (you know release forms etc) or a lot of pictures in general because I was busy working, but I do like the few I got.

It took me like 5 tries to get that tassel in focus for this one,

I loved the speeches this year, So many laughs and great memories were shared.

Yearbook sentiments are sometimes silly or hard to write, but I hope they look back on them fondly.
We had over 230 graduates this year. It is small by comparison to other schools I know. However, it takes a village to graduate a class, but it also takes a great leader!

Some friendships will last a lifetime. Treasure your dearest friends. Make an effort to maintain the friendships that mean the most because during the years to come you find out who your true friends are.

I Want, I Want To Buy

Yesterday I realized I had a running list in my head of things I've been wanting to purchase! I know you know exactly what I mean! So rather than continue to have this list spinning in my head, I decided to write them down via blog.
  1. Office Decor
I am actually knocking a good chunk of this off my list today with a trip to Hobby Lobby! This past weekend, the Hubs and I decided to finally tackle the home office renovation. This has been on the project list forever, but money and more importantly motivation are continuous factors. This weekend our helpful handyman is coming to paint the walls. Our ceilings are vaulted and the Hubs and I are not comfortable that high on the ladder for a painting.

After the painting, the Hubby is going to pull up the carpet and we
are going to lay tile down. Anyway, my part will come in with the decorating not so much the manual labor part. Typical woman, right? LOL I've decided to go with a simple nautical theme to go along with two paintings the Hubs decided to hang from his parents old restaurant. This room is not going to be all yo-ho sailor mind you because this chick gets office space too! I want to add girly touches with a modern chic feel. Does that make sense? I'll post pictures to better convey my personal office space.

2. Young Living Essential Oils
I've recently gotten into essentials oils. I started looking into them after Little Miss got a wicked sinus infection. Well, a couple of people I know used oils so I stared talking to them and researching different brands and I finally decided to buy a Young Living Premium Starter Kit. It's really the best deal because you get 11 oils and a diffuser.
Now that I have gotten started, I want more! Figures right?! Here is a quick run down of the next oils and accessories I want to buy: Cedarwood EO, RC EO, Peace & Calming EO, organic coconut oil and a carrying case to more neatly store my growing collection.

3. Makeup
I ordered my first Ipsy bag. I believe it is going to be delivered next week. High end make up is new to me. I declared my want to learn on my 30 before 30 list. I've gone to Sephora twice and loved the purchases I made. My face is clearer too! Bonus for less blemishes. Well, Sephora is pricey and my cousin recommended Ipsy as a way to try more products for a smaller cost, Plus, it's mailed to the house! So I can say/rationalize that I am saving gas too!? Here is an example of some bags that I found on the internet:
4. Pink High Heels
I bought a new dress for Easter. Sorry  picture. It is a white dress with multiple floral patterns. Well to make a long story short I only own one pair of high heels and they are black. Something about this dress made me want to buy a new pair of shoes and dog-gone-it I will. At some point...

My Valentine's Day Bucket List Adventure

What do you want for Valentine's Day he asked? My response?

Let's cross some things off my 30 before 30 bucket list! He said okay. Our adventure began.

Our first course stop of the night took us to a restaurant featured on Diners. Drive Ins and Dives. This place is kind of off the grind, road side place that is easily looked over, but that's part of the adventure right?

We had to sit outside and it was a little chilly. The Hubs and I both ordered the Triple D Sandwich. I chose this because I wanted to eat something I've never had before (bucket list) and I wanted it to be apart of what Guy Fieri ate on his visit.

The sandwich itself was a large portion. It better of been for almost $10 each. I thought it was very tasty, but honestly it wasn't the best sandwich in the world. The flavors were a very nice combo, but if you didn't eat it quickly it did get soggy. Yuck! I was kind of proud of the Hubby for trying something new too! He is a picky eater and not always willing to try things that he's never had before. I can'y blame him. Meals should be enjoyable and over all this one was for our Valentines Day dinner.

Next we went to the shooting range. I was scared because I have never shot a real gun before. My Hubby loves shooting!

Here is the lovely wall decor!

Like I said before, my Hubby loves to go shooting and he is pretty good at it. We used a couple different targets. Again, I was very nervous. This was a very powerful gun. I think it would have been more enjoyable for me if I used a lower caliber, but this was a spur of the moment trip so we used what we had.
I on the other hand was not as accurate. Can't you tell?
It made me quite nervous of the bullet casings kept popping out of the gun after each shot. That is not how it looks in the movies!

Would I go back? I think I would go back with the Hubs, but like I said another gun would be preferred and I think I would also like to have a mouth guard because I was biting down really hard.

Side note: I really like the complimentary coffee station! It was a perfect ending to my first visit to a gun range.

Life Planner (Oxymoron, Right?)

I genuinely love being organized. I like knowing the answers to certain questions, crossing off my to dos, and having goals. Life seems a little smoother and more manageable. Yes, I am a little Type A, but that is another story.

I really haven't used  planner for my "my life" since graduating high school. Fun fact: I still have my high school planners! My work life has revolved around my desk calendar. At the start of every school year, I sit down and put in my required meetings, class pacing etc.

My home planning is a little more sparse or scattered (those are good terms to use I think). I sometimes meal plan which will guide my grocery shopping. The hubs and I keep a dry erase board on the fridge to upcoming obligations and events like conferences, doctor appointments etc. I really love that idea.

Last weekend, I got the "wind up my skirt" to amp it up when it came to my planner. You see, I bought a planner at Wal-Mart for keeping up with blogging and photography. However, neither of these things have "taken off" in a way that is like business. I didn't want a planner with a bunch of blank pages so I started putting more and more in it and it snow balled from there.

My "snowballing" eventually lead me to Pinterest in search of ideas. I read about the Rolls Royce of planners, The Erin Condren Life Planner. Don't get me wrong these planner are cute and have lots of features, but I don't know if $50 is a good price for a planner when I have he tendency to start things and then stop {hobby whore, remember}.  However, Pinterest and the posted links did give me some good ideas on things I could do to and in my planner.

Here is what I have so have:
Binder pouch
Washi tape
Post its
Extra tabs
Colored pens
Assorted stickers (from my scrap booking days, Walmart and Etsy)

So far, I really like that the planner is helping me with the 365 photography project. I wrote down all the #thebethadillychallenge prompts so I know what my picture to suppose to focus on. I've also tried to note my weekend chore rotation. I know I clean up to clean up, but it's nice to know if you know what I mean?!

This upcoming week I am going to try meal planning our dinners in my planner. I know it can be done, but I've got to take the time to do it!

Be purposeful is the theme I am noticing here. For example, I am trying to purposeful plan out some of my 30 before 30 goals and family activities. I have left myself notes throughout the plan to set this up or go and do this.

It's like the reminder note it yelling at me or silently judging me if I don't  do it,

In the extra notes sections, I added tabs and created new areas which I think are helpful to me. This includes my house to dos/projects, birthday party planning, and blogging ideas.

Ultimately, the quest continues.....we'll see where it take me.

30 Before 30: Bible Study

If you've been paying attention, you know that I've thrown the gauntlet down with a big to do list before I turn the big 30 in October. I wrote about painting and buying a new dog most recently, but behind
scenes I have started a bible study.

Unfortunately, I am doing this bible study alone, but I think for now it is a good thing. The accountability is square on my shoulders. I am learning so that is a wonderful thing! I definitely feel a a calming when I am reading and studying.

I have been doing my study on the book of John. I am actually following the website She Reads Truth. I stumbled upon them on Pinterest. I didn't buy the study journal they offer. Instead, I am reading the required verses and reading my footnotes that are for the verses. The explanations and history are insightful (as they should be in study bible).

Last night, I came across this bible study acronym called SOAK which sounds like a good idea for me to try since I don't have the bible study journal book (and since I am doing this one solo). It is a method that has been used by other ministries and other websites. The quick gist is this:

S – The S stands for Scripture (read)
O – The O stands for Observation What stands out to you? What do you learn about the character of God from these verses?
A – The A stands for Application What is God saying? Are there changes you need to make?
K – The K stands for Kneeling in Prayer

I have got a couple weeks before I am officially done with this one, so please be in prayer for me. This is not about the 30 before 30 as much as it is about growing closer with my Lord. God bless you all!

10 Quickie Things

Here is a quick recap of the last couple days for me:

  1. I did three blog posts this week! This one makes four. I usually am able to keep up with th blogging more when I am on vacation from work!
  2. My cousin Kaitlin got engaged on Christmas Eve while she was in the North Pole! No joke. How magical is that?! It's straight out of a Hallmark movie. I totally want to do their engagement pictures when they return to Florida.
  3. Little Miss had a great Christmas! She is one lucky little girl. I don't think there is one present she loves the most. She wants to open them all and I am doing my best to avoid hints getting lost in the shuffle.
  4. I got two new nutcrackers this year to add to my collection. So far I am at seven nutcrackers. I am going to try and buy at least one more with an after Christmas price tag!
  5. My hubby and I hosted Christmas dinner for the first time. It was a combination of his family and mine. It was nice to have everyone over. The food was delicious. We cooked prime rib. It was a huge roast at 23 lbs. I think we over cooked it a little bit. I know some people like it on the more rare side.
  6. I am going to try and make a soup with some of the leftover meat. Any good suggestions for a recipe?
  7. Our new dog Sally has to go to the Vet for a pre-spay exam and she has an infection that has to be addressed.
  8. As much as I love the holidays and Christmas visits and family gatherings, I am tired and ready for a couple of hours of nothing but lounging.
  9. I want to to to a craft store and check out their clearance items. The hard core shoppers probably already wiped out the good stuff.
  10. I want....nay need a pedicure and to get my hair did.
BONUS: The Hubby forgot to set the alarm and I was late getting up today. Luckily, Little Miss decided to sleep in today too so it worked out.

30 Before 30: Part 3

For the original post on my 30 Before 30 click here.
For Update number two click here.

Are you you properly caught up? Good!

What do you think we've been trying to cross of the list next? To be perfectly honest, the one "item we've focused on recently was one of the things I thought we WOULDN'T DO in all actuality.

The Hubs and I have been looking at getting another dog, a corgi, very seriously. This whole idea started to snowball about two weeks ago. The Hubs matter of factily said I think it's time for another dog.

We've toyed with the idea before, but it never went further than that. This time he started making calls and searching the internet! {this let me know if was serious this time!} I reiterated the fact that I didn't want another "big dog" {medium to large breed}. I wanted a small dog and if we were getting one I really wanted a corgi. We've both had experience with the breed and we know they are great when properly trained. For those of you unfamiliar with the breed here is a picture of one randomly pulled from the internet. This is a red and white Pembroke corgi.

This is the breed of choice for the Queen of England!

Now, as our search began, we started by laying out our criteria or what we were looking for in our potential new fur baby.
  1. Young adult (less than 5)
  2. House trained
  3. Good with kids
  4. Good with other dogs
  5. Crate trained (optional)
  6. Leash trained (optional)
  7. Cost less than $300
The first place we checked was local animal shelters and rescues. The Hubs and I adopted our first dog, Morgan, and she is awesome! There are great dogs (and cats) looking for forever homes. In our case, however, looking for a corgi makes our search very specific limits adoption.

Next, I started contacting Florida breeders via email. I spent a couple of hours over the course of these last couple weeks looking for contact information and checking listings. I did end up find a breeder in West Palm Beach who had almost exactly what were we looking for, but she wanted $1000 for him which gave us a pause because it was a good over our price point. Plus, 3 hours is a long drive to check out a dog and possibly not like him or have our dog not get along with this new "fur friend." So the search took a break on our party.

Of course, by this point, my Hubby mentioned our dog search to his mother who in turn mentioned it to his grandmother and they were getting us numbers of people they knew from showing dogs or recommendations.

Fast forward to yesterday....the Hub's grandmother calls. "I think I may have found you a corgi." It turns out a breeder not far from us decided she was ready to find a new home for one of her dogs. The breeder, Ms.Linda, did not want to breed this little lady anymore and was willing to place her with a new family for FREE! According to the owner, this little lady met all our criteria so needless to say we were excited and made arrangements to visit the next day.

Here is Sally's first picture on the ride to her new home today! I promise to post more cute pictures soon.

She is a four year old, tri-colored Pembroke with AKC papers. When we first met her she was super sweet and loved all the attention she got from me and Little Miss. We were smitten.

The next hurdle in this new adventure is acclimating her with our first dog, Morgan and our home. This will take sometime and patience. Luckily, I am vacation and I have the time to give both our girls some attention.

Well, that;s the long-short version of this "doggie tail" (pun intended). I will do a follow up post down the road.

Ebook Purchase: The Unexpected Everyday

Black Friday has come and gone in my house. We are officially done shopping. Thanks Wal-Mart and Amazon. Anywho....I just wanted to share with you a quickie purchase I did just now in hope of growing my photography skills a little more. A lot of photography classes, workshops etc are pricey or far from my neck of the woods in "small town" Florida. This ebook purchase is a next great alternative I hope!

Click It Up A Notch is a blog/photography site that I stumbled upon via Pinterest and I have been hooked on the emails, stories and articles ever since! I love it when this happens.

Courtney does a great job explaining the meaning and purpose behind this e-book in the link posted above so please, go check it out.

I read her free book already and I have secretly had my eye on this one, but the price was holding me back, Luckily for me, she offered a discount for the first time TODAY and TODAY ONLY! 50% off! Holla---my kind of deal.

I will be sure to share and more on the book as I read it. I would also like to try the project 365 she talks about a lot. I am not sure I have it in me to commit to a year long project, but one of the rules is there are no rules and not to stress over a missed day here or there! So my outlook on that project looks more promising. I'm thinking that I should start sometime in the new year. Too cliche? Maybe. but it's about doing the pictures not so much when and how you start.

Well, that all for now. The Hubby is going to download my new book while he jumps on this here lap top and I think I am going to go to bed!

What did you buy today worth mentioning?

30 Before 30 Update

It's been a few weeks since my original post on turning 29 and my list of want to do first published. So far, I have done a couple things off my list which is pretty cool {I think}.
  1. Enter a photography contest
  2. Have a girls night at Painting with a Twist
The photography contest was my first cross off you might recall. I wasn't able to go to the actual festival where the winner were announced. It kind of coincided with nap time and  Little Miss has been getting over a sinus infection so I really wasn't too keen to taking her out and about {or leaving her behind for that matter}. I still haven't been able to find the results of the contest yet. Secretly I am hoping to receive something in the mail letting me know I placed in a category, but perhaps my wishful thinking is getting the best of me. I am also checking their website for a update....obviously nothing yet.

My friends Hannah and Jessica have planned our next girly adventure to Painting with a Twist. Our class is scheduled to paint this picture.

Honestly, I don't particularly like this painting template much. I think it is the color combinations I am not fond of. What do you think? Who knows, maybe they will let you choose your own colors? I don't know. I guess I will have to wait and see.

The big picture is not the painting itself, but more the fun and camaraderie of a girls outing!! It was a dreary and raining morning. Traffic was a little heavy on the interstate. I thought we were going to be late and miss our class. Luckily, traffic eventually let up and we made it with plenty of time to spare.

The studio was really neat. One of the first things I did was walk around and look at all the painting examples displayed on the wall. I found some other painting that I would love to come back and paint. I don't know if my house has enough wall space, but I do know that they would make lovely gifts.

As our session started, we listened to a variety of music. The instructor gave us really simple and easy to follow instructions. I think with a few classes one would learn a few good techniques which could be easily replicated outside the studio. For example, did you know that you could use white chalk to draw out your picture on the canvas? I didn't, but then again, I've never taken an art class.

Our class lasted a little over two hours. A lot of our time was spent waiting for paint to literally dry!  Going to PWAT was a super fun way to spend our morning out. I will say that we were starving when it was all said and done.

I decided that my newest piece of artwork would look lovely in or near Little Miss' room. I am going to go to Wal-Mart or a craft store and get a paint pen and try to put a bible verse in my "best calligraphy attempt" inside the pink cross. What do you think? Good idea?

I am definitely going to PWAT again in the not so distant future.
